Who's Sitting at Your Love Table?

Updated: Jan 13

We were listening to the May 19, 2025, podcast of the Mel Robbins Network. During this episode, Mel interviewed a prominent figure in the field of human spirituality, Dr. Lisa Miller. Many key elements of this conversation sparked my curiosity and ignited my spiritual journey. The standout factor was the practice of recognizing and activating your “Love Table.”

Love Table

Dr. Miller posed a thought-provoking question: “If you could have anyone (living or dead), who would you want to sit with you at this table of love?” Like Mel, I paused for a moment. My mind flooded with dozens of people I would want to occupy this space and time with me. I saw this as an opportunity to address world problems, unite great minds, and ask questions of those who were considered geniuses before their time. Names like Mother Teresa, Gandhi, and others immediately came to mind. I even considered our current sitting president as someone I would like to have a table discussion with.

Then Dr. Miller asked, “Who would you want to hear say, ‘I love you?’” WHOA! That’s different. The list definitely just got shorter. The thought pierced through my mind like a long needle.

The Importance of Unconditional Love

As the conversation continued, Dr. Miller instructed Mel and her listeners to invite their Higher Self and Higher Power to this table. This deepened the conversation for me. It emphasized the importance of true, deep, sincere, unconditional love—love that transcends limitations and has no conditions. True love is the love you feel at the deepest part of your soul.

I often tell my children, “I love you from the deepest part of my soul.” I know that regardless of what happens in our lives, my love for each of them is unyielding, unconditional, and without strings. I will always carry that love for them in my heart and through the universe.

Understanding Your Personal Love

Ultimately, Dr. Miller explained that this exercise is about learning to understand your own personal love. You know the term “self-love.” It has been a buzzword in our culture for the past decade. However, Dr. Miller’s exercise provided me with a deeper understanding of eternal self-love. This concept is something that the books and the industry often don’t explain effectively. Eternal self-love exists clearly in your heart and spirit. You must find it within yourself to grasp the meaning of your self-love. It’s not the same for everyone.

Self-Love

The Journey to Self-Love

Because of our experiences and encounters that may have left us with heartache and trauma, self-love can be difficult to identify. This is why I found this conversation so valuable. When you hear the words “I love you” from those who may have unintentionally caused you pain, your self-love elevates and becomes internally satisfying.

Learning to love yourself is the gateway to healing from what has happened to you. It helps you let go and move forward with power and love.

Reflecting on Your Love Table

So, who’s sitting at your love table? Take a moment to reflect on this. Who do you want to invite? Are there people from your past who have shaped your understanding of love? Perhaps there are mentors or figures you admire.

Consider also inviting your Higher Self and Higher Power. This addition can transform your table into a sacred space for healing and growth.

Creating Your Love Table

Creating your love table is not just a mental exercise; it’s a journey. It requires introspection and honesty. Start by writing down the names of those you wish to invite. Next, think about what you would want to discuss with them. What questions would you ask? What wisdom do you seek?

As you engage in this process, remember that the most important guest at your table is you. Your presence matters. Your voice matters. Your love matters.

Embracing the Power of Love

In conclusion, the concept of a love table is more than just a metaphor. It is a powerful tool for self-discovery and healing. By recognizing who you want at your table, you can better understand your own needs and desires.

Let this exercise inspire you to cultivate deeper connections with yourself and others. Embrace the love that exists within you and around you. Remember, love is not just a feeling; it’s an action.

So, who’s sitting at your love table? Let this question guide you on your journey toward self-love and healing.
